MEET SHELBEY

A VOICE FOR OUR CHILDREN, A VOICE FOR OUR FUTURE.

My motivation to run for Board of Education is education and community service have always been a focus for my family and community. It was impressed upon us that education was our chance to live a better life than our parents, grandparents, and many others who struggled to get an education. My father earned his GED and worked as the Head Chef at a well known resort hotel for over 20 years. My mother went back to school, while raising my sister and me, and earned a teaching degree. She went on to be a substitute teacher within our county school system.

I have been where so many parents are. The struggle is real and I have been there. With the help of my family, instructors, and the Adult Degree program, I worked shift work, full-time at a carpet plant, raised three children, and was a full-time student. I graduated

Summa Cum Laude from Mary Baldwin University. It was not easy but it was

worth it. It was my commitment, my dream, my journey.

All of this has fed my deep sense of serving within my community, reignited my

passion for education and lit my desire to represent our children, parents,

teachers, and school administration to improve our Barrow County School

System and better serve our students.

I believe that everyone deserves a chance at a quality education. Once obtained,

no one can ever take it away from you!
