WHY VOTE FOR SHELBEY

"It was impressed up us that education was our chance to live a better life than our parents, grandparents, and many others that struggled to receive an education. I believe that everyone deserves a chance at a quality education, and that is why I want to work for you. Our children, teachers, and families deserve more from our education system."
VISION
Access to resources for all children

Each young person deserves a chance to experience different things and opportunities. They need a chance to see what is available to help them grow as students and people. They need guidance to understand how to find and utilize these resources. This translates to independence, ingenuity, and life

lessons.

Equal opportunities for all children

Every child or young adult should have the opportunity to pursue their life’s dream. They deserve to know that they are important, valued, and have a myriad of choices. We must open the doors and encourage each of them to explore the many options the world has to offer, then provide what they need to succeed.

Standardized Testing

I believe that standardized testing may add some value in evaluating student achievement and school performance IF it is used in conjunction with other viable methods of evaluating students.

As a whole, I do not see it as an accurate or fair

method of evaluating a student’s school performance or achievement. Some students simply do not test well because the testing environment can be intimidating for some while others do really well. We all learn differently. Due to forces beyond the students control, some exposures or experiences needed to score well are not available. Standardized testing does not take into account life skills that a student may have.

Encourage & cultivate the interests of young minds

The world has evolved but our education system has largely been left behind. How do we find a solution?

Listen to the students! Let them tell us what they are interested in, how they feel, what they expect, what they need to feed their minds and craft their dreams.

Listen to the Teachers! They are there everyday with our children. Guiding them, teaching them, learning who they are and what dreams they behold. Teachers are the key to reaching students and providing a well-rounded education. Support our Teachers, so they can support our children.

Funding for effective programs

All available funding resources need to be reviewed and vetted to determine if, and where, additional funding can be garnered. We can explore and employ proven ideas utilized within other school systems.

No more wasteful spending or missing/ unaccounted for funds. We need to identify and invest in programs and resources our Students and Teachers benefit from.

We must make sure the annual budget is aligned with the vision of our school district. And make sure all parties with fiscal responsibility are held accountable for the proper handling of funds for the designated uses as set forth by the governing body.

Recruiting and Retain high-quality teachers

We should review our salary scale to determine how we compare to other districts and be competitive in our salary offerings. We must address the expectations of our teachers, assess what they bring to the table, and determine if an individual supports the vision of our school system.

We should develop a plan to improve the quality of education, the ratings of our school system, and hire teachers who will rise to meet the challenge

We must trust Teachers to lead and control their classrooms in keeping with the overall vision.

HOW DO WE IMPROVE?

In order to build a strong partnership between our schools, parents, and community, I will have a listening ear and then be a voice!

I was taught: “God gave us two ears and one mouth…use them accordingly!”

Listen to the Students: Hear and acknowledge what they are saying. Be an advocate. Provide them with real world-ready academics.

Listen to the Parents: Hear and understand their concerns and expectations. Work together to find solutions.

Listen to Teachers: Hear what is needed for them to be their best. Provide proper tools and resources so our Teachers can focus on what matters most, our children.

“Be a positive voice for our children, for a better World and a better Future!”
